Thera-Business is proud to share that a new article authored by members of our team has been published in the Fall 2025 issue of the AMWA Journal.

Titled “Artificial Intelligence Bias in Health Communication: Risks and Strategies for Medical Writers”, the article was written by Dr. Red Thaddeus D. Miguel, MD, MBA, MSc, RAC, RCC, Manal El Joumaa, MSc, and Rami Ali, MScPH.

The paper explores how artificial intelligence (AI) is reshaping the field of health communication, bringing with it both opportunities and significant risks. While AI can accelerate content creation and improve workflow efficiency, it can also introduce harmful biases that affect the accuracy, fairness, and equity of medical information.

The authors identify three core types of bias that medical writers should be aware of: data-driven bias, algorithmic bias, and human bias. These forms of bias can emerge from unrepresentative training data, flawed system design, or a lack of contextual understanding, issues that can lead to misinformation and deepen existing health disparities if left unaddressed.

The article offers practical strategies for medical writers to integrate AI tools with integrity. Emphasizing the importance of editorial standards, collaborative practices, and ethical responsibility, the authors highlight the essential role of medical writers in ensuring AI supports equitable and effective health communication.

We congratulate our authors on this important contribution to the field.
